Homestead Tax Credit

Homeowners in Arkansas may receive a homestead property tax credit of up to $425 per year. Beginning with the 2025 tax bills the general assembly has authorized an increase up to $500. The credit is applicable to the “homestead”, which is defined as the dwelling of a person used as their principal place of residence. The homestead property may be owned by a revocable or irrevocable trust. Homeowners must apply for the credit with the county assessor’s office.

Eligibility

  • You must own your home and it is your principal place of residence
  • A property owner may not claim more than one homestead property tax credit per calendar year.

Age 65 or Disabled Homeowner Property Tax Relief

A Homeowner 65 or older or disabled will qualify to have their property value frozen. This means that the property value on your home will not increase unless there is a millage increase of an addition to the home.

Eligibility

  • You must own your home and it is your principal place of residence
  • Must be 65 or older or disabled, as defined by the Social Security Administration standards

Proof of age or disability is required. Proof of age documents can include:
  • A copy of your driver’s license
  • A copy of your birth certificate
Proof of disability documents can include:
  • A copy of your Medicare card
  • Your award letter from Social Security
