Property Tax Relief for Elderly and Disabled Homeowners and Renters

This program provides a refundable tax credit to eligible homeowners and renters on their Rhode Island personal income tax for property taxes paid. The credit is the property tax liability in excess a percent of the taxpayer’s income. The maximum credit is $650 for 2023 and adjusted annually based on the consumer price index for all urban consumers.

For renters, property taxes are assumed to be 20% of gross rent, excluding utilities.

Application Deadline

April 15, 2024. Even if you are seeking a filing extension for your Rhode Island Income Tax returns, the Property Tax Relief Claim must be filed by April 15, 2024.
